भीमसेनस्तु संक्रुद्धो गदामादाय पाण्डवः। ध्वजं धनुश्च सूतं च सम्ममर्दाहवे रिपोः॥

The verse highlights how anger (krodha) can intensify violence in war: Bhīma does not merely counter the enemy’s attack but annihilates the enemy’s martial supports (standard, weapon, and charioteer). It implicitly invites reflection on restraint and proportionality even within kṣatriya warfare.
Sañjaya reports that Bhīma, provoked and furious, grabs his mace and smashes the enemy’s chariot insignia (banner), the bow, and the charioteer on the battlefield—depicting a decisive, brutal moment in the Drona Parva fighting.
