The verse underscores how war collapses clarity and order: when armies intermix, distinctions vanish and the scene becomes a realm of Death. Ethically, it highlights the psychological cost of violence—fear multiplies, especially among those without steadiness or courage.
Sañjaya reports that the Kaurava and Pāñcāla forces have surged into a tightly interwoven melee. The fighting is so confused that no one can tell separate units apart, and the battlefield appears like Death’s own arena, intensifying panic among the timid.
