Educational Q&A

The verse frames fearlessness in battle as grounded in a life of fulfilled obligations: one who has completed prescribed duties—charity, rightful enjoyment, and sacred study—becomes 'anṛṇa' (free of debts to gods, seers, and ancestors) and should act without hesitation in accordance with kṣatriya-dharma.

In the Drona Parva’s battle context, Sañjaya reports an exhortation addressed to a warrior: he is reassured that his religious and social obligations are complete, and is urged to abandon fear and engage Arjuna (the Pāṇḍava) in combat.
