Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical tension of war: valor and loyalty are praised, yet the counsel given is explicitly lethal—‘send him to Yama’s abode.’ It shows how, in Kurukṣetra, strategic necessity often overrides gentler moral instincts, and ‘dharma’ becomes contested through the lens of survival and allegiance.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Ghaṭotkaca—depicted as a sky-moving, highly destructive ally of the Pāṇḍavas—is rapidly charging to attack Karṇa. The instruction is to stop him and kill him, treating his advance as an urgent threat to Karṇa and the Kaurava cause.
