चित्रसेनो महाराज शतानीकं पुनर्युधि । नवभिर्निशितैर्बाणैराजघान स्तनान्तरे,महाराज! चित्रसेनने युद्धस्थलमें पुनः नौ तीखे बाणोंद्वारा शतानीककी छातीमें गहरी चोट पहुँचायी
citrāseno mahārāja śatānīkaṃ punar yudhi | navabhir niśitair bāṇair ājaghāna stanāntare, mahārāja ||
सञ्जय उवाच—चित्रसेनो महाराज शतानीकं पुनर्युधि । नवभिर्निशितैर्बाणैराजघान स्तनान्तरे ॥
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya-world of the Mahābhārata: persistence and martial skill are praised in battle, yet the narration also implicitly reminds the listener of war’s harsh inevitability—repeated injury and escalation—inviting reflection on the moral cost of conflict.
Sañjaya reports to the king that the warrior Citrāsena, once again during the fight, hits Śatānīka with nine keen arrows, wounding him in the chest area.
