Arjuna-vīrya-prasaṃśā and renewed battle formation
paśya tvaṃ garjitasyāsya phala me vipra sānugān | hatvā pāṇḍusutān ājau sahakṛṣṇān sasātvātān ||
The verse underscores the ethical idea that arrogant threats and boastful bravado (garjita) are ultimately tested by consequences (phala). In the Mahābhārata’s moral frame, speech that exults in slaughter reveals adharma, and the ‘fruit’ of such pride is meant to be judged against dharma and the tragic cost of war.
Sañjaya addresses a brāhmaṇa and points to the outcome of a warrior’s boast: the claim of having killed the Pāṇḍavas in battle, along with Kṛṣṇa and the Sātvatas. The line functions as a report and a pointed commentary on the grim results and the rhetoric of victory in the Drona Parva war setting.
