दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical gravity of war: even renowned heroes and entire allied groups are swept away. It implicitly warns that conflict fueled by pride and unrighteous resolve culminates in irreversible loss, making victory itself morally and emotionally hollow.
Duryodhana lists major Kaurava-side losses—Jayadratha and the valiant Saumadatti (Bhūriśravas), along with several allied peoples (Abhīṣāhas, Śūrasenas, Śibis, Vasātis). The statement conveys the deteriorating situation and the mounting casualties in the Kurukṣetra war.
