कर्ण उवाच
As a colophon, the verse does not teach a doctrine directly; it frames the episode ethically by formally recording that the narrative has reached the point of Karṇa’s defeat within the larger war sequence, reminding the reader that events unfold as part of an ordered epic account where actions and consequences are tracked with precision.
The line signals the end of a chapter in the Droṇa Parva, located within the Jayadratha-slaying section, and identifies the chapter’s focus as Karṇa’s defeat; it is an editorial/narrative closure rather than spoken dialogue.
