ततो द्रोणं शिने: पौत्रो राजन् विव्याध पत्रिणा । दक्षिणं भुजमासाद्य पीडयन् भरतर्षभ,राजन! भरतश्रेष्ठ! तब शिनिके पौत्रने एक बाणसे द्रोणाचार्यकी दाहिनी भुजापर चोट करके उसे पीड़ा देते हुए आचार्यको घायल कर दिया
tato droṇaṃ śineḥ pautro rājan vivyādha pattriṇā | dakṣiṇaṃ bhujam āsādya pīḍayan bharatarṣabha ||
ततो द्रोणं शिनेः पौत्रो राजन् विव्याध पत्रिणा । दक्षिणं भुजमासाद्य पीडयन् भरतर्षभ ॥
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical strain of battlefield dharma: even a revered teacher like Droṇa is treated as an opposing combatant when one’s obligation to protect one’s side takes precedence over personal reverence. It illustrates how role-based duty (svadharma) can compel harsh action amid war.
Sañjaya reports to the king that Śini’s grandson—Sātyaki—shoots Droṇa with a feathered arrow, striking his right arm and causing him pain, thereby wounding the Kaurava commander in the ongoing battle.
