Description of the Bhīmasena–Karṇa Engagement
कुरुयोधवरा राजंस्तव पुत्र परीप्सव: । धनंजयरथं शीघ्र सर्वतः समुपाद्रवन्,राजन! नाना देशोंमें उत्पन्न महान् वेगशाली आजानेयर, पर्वतीयः (पहाड़ी), नदीजई (दरियाई) तथा सिंधुदेशीय उत्तम घोड़ोंद्वारा आपके पुत्रकी रक्षाके लिये उत्सुक हुए श्रेष्ठ कौरवयोद्धा सब ओरसे शीघ्र ही अर्जुनके रथपर टूट पड़े
sañjaya uvāca | kuru-yodhavarā rājan tava putra-parīpsavaḥ | dhanañjaya-rathaṁ śīghraṁ sarvataḥ samupādravan ||
कुरुयोधवराः राजन् तव पुत्रपरीप्सवः। धनञ्जयरथं शीघ्रं सर्वतः समुपाद्रवन्॥
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical complexity of war: courage and unity can be directed toward protecting one’s leader or kin, yet such loyalty does not by itself determine the side of dharma. It illustrates how personal duty (to defend ‘one’s own’) can intensify conflict when opposed to a broader moral order.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that elite Kuru fighters, intent on safeguarding the king’s son, rapidly converge from all directions and launch a coordinated assault on Arjuna’s chariot.
