अध्याय ८८ — घटोत्कच-दुर्योधनयुद्धवर्णनम्
Ghaṭotkaca–Duryodhana Engagement
तैः सम्प्रयुक्तै: स महारथाग्र्यै- गज्भासुत: समरे चित्रयोधी । न विव्यथे शान्तनवो महात्मा समागतै: पाण्डुसुतै: समस्तै:
taiḥ samprayuktaiḥ sa mahārathāgryaiḥ gaṅgābhāsutaḥ samare citrayodhī | na vivyathe śāntanavo mahātmā samāgataiḥ pāṇḍusutaiḥ samastaiḥ ||
तैः सम्प्रयुक्तैः पाण्डुसुतैः समस्तैर्महारथाग्र्यैः समागतैः, गङ्गासुतः शान्तनवो महात्मा भीष्मः समरे चित्रयोधी न विव्यथे न च व्यथितोऽभवत्।
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes unwavering steadiness in the face of collective opposition. Bhīṣma’s lack of agitation illustrates the ideal of disciplined courage—acting from duty and trained resolve rather than being shaken by numbers or threat.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield moment when all the Pāṇḍavas, foremost among great warriors, converge and engage Bhīṣma. Despite their united assault, Bhīṣma—Śāntanu’s son, born of the Gaṅgā—remains untroubled and continues fighting with remarkable skill.
