Yudhiṣṭhira–Śrutāyu encounter; Cekitāna–Gautama clash; Abhimanyu pressure; Arjuna’s redeployment
na hi me jīvitena api vidyate ’dya prayojanam | bhīmasena raṇe hitvā sneham utsṛjya pāṇḍavaiḥ |
The verse frames life as meaningful only when aligned with one’s chosen bonds of loyalty and duty: abandoning a righteous commitment (here, steadfastness toward Bhīma and the Pāṇḍavas) renders mere survival ethically empty.
Sañjaya reports an intense resolve: he declares that if he were to leave Bhīmasena in the midst of battle and sever his affectionate allegiance to the Pāṇḍavas, then continuing to live would serve no purpose.
