ततः कालिडूसैन्यानां प्रमुखे भरतर्षभ
tataḥ kālīḍūsainyānāṃ pramukhe bharatarṣabha

This line is primarily narrative rather than doctrinal: it models attentive, responsible witnessing—Sañjaya reports events precisely, reminding the listener that actions in war unfold through identifiable agents and formations, and that consequences arise from choices made on the battlefield.
Sañjaya transitions to describe something occurring at the front (vanguard) of a particular contingent called the Kāliḍū troops, addressing Dhṛtarāṣṭra respectfully as ‘bharatarṣabha’ while continuing the battle report.
