The verse underscores the kṣatriya ethos of decisive engagement in battle: when duty and enmity culminate, warriors close in with unwavering intent. The Indra–Vṛtra comparison also hints at the cosmic scale often attributed to human conflict in the epic, where personal valor is framed within larger moral and fated currents.
Sañjaya describes two powerful heroes advancing toward each other, their arrows flashing, and beginning a close, intense fight. Their combat is likened to the legendary battle between Indra and Vṛtra, emphasizing ferocity and the magnitude of the clash.
