उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
इष्टा वाच: प्रविष्टस्य दक्षिणा: प्रविविक्षत: । पश्चात् संधारयन्त्यर्थमग्रे च प्रतिषेधिका:
iṣṭā vācaḥ praviṣṭasya dakṣiṇāḥ pravivikṣataḥ | paścāt saṃdhārayanty artham agre ca pratiṣedhikāḥ ||
व्यास उवाच—यदा शत्रुसेनां प्रवेष्टुमिच्छन्तो वा प्रविष्टा वा योधा इष्टाः शौर्यसूचकाः वाचो वदन्ति, रणकौशलं च प्रकाशयन्ति, तदा ते पश्चाद्भाविनं जयार्थं पूर्वमेव निश्चिन्वन्ति। ये तु प्रवेशनकाले अग्रतः प्रतिषेधकान् निरुत्साहकरान् शब्दान् शृण्वन्ति, तेषां पराजयालक्षणं भवति।
