उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
वामार्चिर्दष्टगन्धश्न॒ मुज्चन् वै दारुणं स्वनम् । स्पर्शा गन्धा रसाश्चैव विपरीता महीपते
vāmārcir dṛṣṭa-gandhaś ca muñcan vai dāruṇaṁ svanam | sparśā gandhā rasāś caiva viparītā mahīpate ||
व्यास उवाच—राजन्, ब्राह्मणैर्हविर्भिः प्रज्वलितोऽपि यज्ञाग्निरनिष्टलक्षणान्यभिव्यञ्जयति। तस्य ज्वालाः वामावर्तं वलन्ति, दुर्गन्धं मुञ्चति, दारुणं च स्वनं करोति। स्पर्शो गन्धो रसश्चैव विपरीततां गताः। इयं हि इन्द्रियधर्मविपर्ययः धर्मक्षोभं महायुद्धे च महाविपत्तेः पूर्वसूचनां बभूव।
