एह्टीहि मे विप्रतीप स्पर्धसे त्वं मया सह । यदि मां नाधिगच्छेथा न ते श्रेयो ध्रुवं भवेत्,“आओ, आओ, कर्ण! तुम सदा मुझसे लाग-डाँट रखते रहे। सदा मेरे साथ स्पर्धा करते रहे। आज यदि तुम मेरे पास नहीं आते तो निश्चय ही तुम्हारा कल्याण नहीं होता
ehi me vipratīpa spardhase tvaṃ mayā saha | yadi māṃ nādhigacchethā na te śreyo dhruvaṃ bhavet ||

संजय उवाच
Even amid rivalry and harsh speech, timely approach to the right counsel can be decisive for one’s śreyas (true welfare). The verse frames ‘coming’ not merely as physical arrival but as choosing guidance that safeguards one’s good.
Sañjaya addresses Karṇa directly, reminding him of their long-standing contention and urging him to come near. He stresses that if Karṇa had not come at this moment, Karṇa’s welfare would certainly have been jeopardized.
