This line functions as a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it emphasizes textual structure and the ethical framing of the episode by identifying the chapter’s subject—Bhīṣma’s counsel to Duryodhana—within the war narrative, reminding the reader that moral instruction and accountability accompany the events of battle.
The narrator marks the completion of a chapter in the Bhīṣma Parva, specifically within the section on Bhīṣma’s fall, stating that the chapter concerned Bhīṣma’s words addressed to Duryodhana; it signals a transition to the next unit of the story.
