उत्तड़्क उवाच
The verse highlights the disciple’s humility and careful inquiry: true learning in the guru–śiṣya tradition involves seeking clarity, verifying claims, and understanding one’s prior duties and practices in the teacher’s hermitage.
Uttaṅka addresses another speaker and asks how he can be sure of that person’s connection to his teacher’s hermitage, and he requests an explanation of the specific act or duty that he is said to have performed there earlier.
