धृतराष्ट्र-सत्कारः तथा श्राद्ध-दाने नियमनम् | Honoring Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Regulating Śrāddha-Gifts
न राज्ञो धृतराष्ट्रस्य न च दुर्योधनस्य वै
na rājño dhṛtarāṣṭrasya na ca duryodhanasya vai, viparīta-kaś ca me śatrur niyamyaś ca bhaven naraḥ |
वैशम्पायन उवाच— न राज्ञो धृतराष्ट्रस्य न च दुर्योधनस्य वै विपरीतं कश्चित्कुर्यादिति मे निश्चयः। यो हि विपरीतमाचरति स मे शत्रुः; यस्तु नियम्य आज्ञामनुवर्तते स एव सुहृन्नरः।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Friendship and legitimacy are defined by disciplined adherence to rightful authority and social duty; oppositional, disruptive conduct is treated as enmity and becomes liable to correction.
The narrator reports a policy attributed to the ruling side: Dhṛtarāṣṭra (and by extension Duryodhana) are to be treated as authoritative figures; those who comply are counted as allies, while those who act contrary are marked as enemies.
