शूलपाणेर्भगवतो रुद्रस्य च महात्मनः। गिरौ हिमवति श्रेष्ठे तदा भृगुकुलोद्वह॥
भीष्म उवाच
The verse foregrounds reverence for the Divine (Rudra/Śiva) through honorific epithets and places the discussion within a sacred setting; ethically, it models respectful address, remembrance of holy contexts, and the importance of lineage-honor (addressing Paraśurāma as the foremost of the Bhṛgus).
Bhīṣma begins recounting an event connected with Rudra/Śiva on the Himālaya, addressing Paraśurāma as ‘bhṛgukulodvaha’ and setting the time and place for the ensuing account.
