Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma

देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात्‌ । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति

devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||

भीष्म उवाच—धर्मशासनानुसारं यां स्त्रीं देवदत्तामिव न्यायतो लब्धां पतिर्भार्यां वेत्ति। स तां दैवेन प्रदत्तामिति मन्यमानः प्रतिगृह्णाति, मनुष्याणां तु मिथ्यावादं—तद्विवाहोऽयोग्य इति वाचं—पर्युदस्यति।
