On Those Worthy of Honor and Salutation
अन््यं वरं वृणीष्व त्वं दुर्लभो5यं हि ते वर: । अत: जिनका मन अपने वशमें नहीं है
śakra uvāca | anyaṃ varaṃ vṛṇīṣva tvaṃ durlabho ’yaṃ hi te varaḥ |
अन्यं वरं वृणीष्व त्वं दुर्लभोऽयं हि ते वरः। अतः स्ववशे न मनो येषां तेषां ब्राह्मणत्वं सर्वथा दुष्प्राप्यम्; तदाग्रहं त्यक्त्वा वरान्तरं वृणीष्व॥
शक्र उवाच
True spiritual status (such as Brahminhood) is tied to inner discipline—especially mastery of the mind—rather than mere desire or demand; without self-control, such a state is declared practically unattainable.
Indra (Śakra), responding to a request for a boon, discourages the seeker from asking for Brahminhood, calling it difficult to obtain for them, and urges them to choose a different boon instead.
