Educational Q&A

Reverence toward the Gaṅgā—symbolized by placing her riverbank earth on one’s head—is praised as a purifying act that dispels inner ignorance (tamas) and fosters a radiant, clarified disposition aligned with dharma.

A Siddha is describing the spiritual efficacy of contact with the sacred Gaṅgā: even a simple act of devotion (bearing the riverbank soil on the head) is portrayed as producing sun-like purity, metaphorically removing the darkness of ignorance.
