Bhīṣma’s Yogic Departure, Royal Cremation, and Gaṅgā’s Lament (भीष्मस्य योगयुक्त्या देहत्यागः, पितृमेधः, गङ्गाविलापः)
पूर्णे च दशमे मासि पुत्रो5स्य परमादभुत: । रुक्मिण्यां सम्मतो जज्ञे शूरो वंशधर: प्रभो
pūrṇe ca daśame māsi putro 'sya paramādbhutaḥ | rukmiṇyāṁ sammato jajñe śūro vaṁśadharaḥ prabho prabho ||
पूर्णे च दशमे मासि पुत्रोऽस्य परमाद्भुतः । रुक्मिण्यां सम्मतो जज्ञे शूरो वंशधरः प्रभो ॥
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic ideal that a worthy, accepted heir sustains family and social order; lineage-continuity is portrayed as auspicious when joined with virtue and heroism.
Bhīṣma narrates that after the completion of the tenth month, Rukmiṇī gives birth to an extraordinary, heroic son who is welcomed as the future continuer of the family line.
