Lord Vishnu (narrating instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra, with reference to Hara/Śiva’s statement)

Concept: Follow vidhi (prescribed method) and then perform āvāhana—inviting the deity as a living presence; obedience to instruction enables effective worship.

Vedantic Theme: Guru/śāstra-vākya as pramāṇa for practice; īśvara-sannidhāna arises when mind and method align.

Application: Complete preliminaries without haste; then consciously ‘invite’ the chosen deity (here Hayagrīva) with focused attention, as the main act of worship/meditation.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: ritual space at the moment of āvāhana

Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.34.24-26 (preparatory worship and āsana-arcana); Garuda Purana 1.34.28 (visualization and mūla-mantra in āvāhana)

FAQs

This verse frames Hayagrīva-āvāhana as the next mandated step after following the prescribed vidhi, emphasizing divine assistance for correct ritual performance and sacred understanding.

Indirectly: it highlights that correct procedure (vidhi) and proper invocation of a deity are treated as essential supports for dharmic practice, which in the Garuda Purana is repeatedly linked to auspicious outcomes beyond death.

Follow a disciplined, scripturally grounded method in worship, and begin important recitations/rites with a clear invocation (āvāhana) seeking clarity, learning, and steadiness of mind.
