Pilgrimage Sequence on Sacred Fords (Narmadā Region): Bhṛgu-tīrtha, Śiva-vratas, and Merit Amplification

घंटाभरणसंयुक्तां कपिलां यः प्रयच्छति । शिवतुल्यो नरो भूत्वा न चेह जायते पुनः

ghaṃṭābharaṇasaṃyuktāṃ kapilāṃ yaḥ prayacchati | śivatulyo naro bhūtvā na ceha jāyate punaḥ

Кто дарует капилу — корову, украшенную колокольчиками и убранством, — становится равным Шиве; став таким, он более не рождается в этом мире.

Concept: Dāna performed with proper saṃskāra (adornment, completeness) yields extraordinary spiritual elevation, even liberation from rebirth as stated here.

Application: Practice intentional giving: offer something ‘complete’ (useful, dignified, well-prepared) rather than leftover charity; pair it with a prayer for humility rather than status.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

The verse praises go-dāna: donating a kapilā (tawny) cow that is adorned with bells and ornaments.

The donor is said to become “equal to Śiva” (śivatulya) and to be free from rebirth in this world.

It teaches the purāṇic ethic that generous, reverent charity—especially sacred gifts like go-dāna—purifies karma and is portrayed as a direct support for spiritual liberation.
