The Account of Mohinī (Mohinī-kathanam): Ekādaśī Nirṇaya, Daśamī Boundary, and Aruṇodaya
महाद्वादशिका ह्यष्टौ याः स्मृता वैष्णवागमे । तास्तु ह्येकादशीभिन्ना उपोष्यंते च वैष्णवैः ॥ ४ ॥
mahādvādaśikā hyaṣṭau yāḥ smṛtā vaiṣṇavāgame | tāstu hyekādaśībhinnā upoṣyaṃte ca vaiṣṇavaiḥ || 4 ||
В вайшнавской традиции помнят восемь соблюдений, называемых Маха-двадаши. Они отличны от обычной Экадаши, и вайшнавы постятся в эти дни.
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: Mahā-dvādaśī (eight types)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It distinguishes special Dvādaśī-based fasts (Mahā-dvādaśīs) from ordinary Ekādaśī, highlighting that Vaiṣṇavas treat these days as particularly important for disciplined devotion and purity.
By emphasizing faithful observance of Vaiṣṇava fasts, it presents bhakti as lived practice—devotion expressed through vrata, restraint, and adherence to the Vaiṣṇava āgama.
It points to practical calendrical and ritual determination (connected with Jyotiṣa and vrata-nirṇaya), namely identifying Mahā-dvādaśī days and observing the correct fasting protocol distinct from standard Ekādaśī.
