वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! धनुषधारियोंमें श्रेष्ठ अर्जुनने शत्रुसेनाको बड़े वेगसे दबाकर उन गौओंको जीत लिया और वे युद्धकी इच्छासे फिर दुर्योधनकी ओर चले ।।
goṣu prayātāsu javena matsyān kirīṭinaṃ kṛtakāryaṃ ca matvā | duryodhanāyābhimukhaṃ prayātaṃ kurupravīrāḥ sahasā nipetuḥ ||
Вайшампаяна сказал: О Джанамеджая! Арджуна, лучший среди лучников, с великой стремительностью прижал вражеское войско и отвоевал тех коров; затем, жаждая битвы, он снова двинулся к Дурьодхане. Когда стадо, гонимое во весь опор, уже направлялось к столице страны Матсья, и когда они поняли, что увенчанный диадемой Арджуна исполнил своё дело и идёт навстречу Дурьодхане, тогда лучшие куруские воины внезапно ринулись туда и обрушились на место событий — жаждущие боя и намеренные встретить его лицом к лицу.
