Bhīṣma–Arjuna Encounter Framed Cosmically
nāyaṁ kālo virodhasya kaunteye samupasthite | kṣantavyaṁ bhavatā sarvam ācāryeṇa kṛpeṇa ca ||
Bhīṣma teaches situational dharma: when a greater external danger is imminent, one should restrain factional hostility and practice forbearance—especially toward elders and teachers like Droṇa and Kṛpa—so that unity and right conduct are preserved.
In the tense lead-up to battle, Bhīṣma addresses a Kuru leader (vocative “Kaunteya”), warning that this is not the moment for internal quarrels. With Arjuna ready to fight, he urges reconciliation and forgiveness toward the martial preceptors Droṇa and Kṛpa.
