स्पर्थया च बलोन्मत्ता तावुभौ सूतपाण्डवौ । निशीथे पर्यकर्षेतां बलिनौ निर्जने स्थले

Transliteration

spardhayā ca balonmattā tāv ubhau sūtapāṇḍavau | niśīthe paryakarṣetāṃ balinau nirjane sthale ||

Translation

Вайшампаяна сказал: Охваченные соперничеством и гордыней силы, два героя — сын Суты и сын Панду — сцепились в безлюдном месте в полночь. Оба могучие, они без конца тянули и толкали друг друга, и их поединок питался скорее жаждой состязания, чем самообладанием.
