Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 13 — Kīcaka’s Proposition and Draupadī’s Dharmic Refusal
evaṁ sa bahūn mallān puruṣāṁś ca mahābalān | vinighnan matsyarājasya prītim āharad uttamām ||
Strength gains ethical meaning when governed by purpose and restraint: Bhīma’s prowess is portrayed as disciplined capability used to secure rightful protection and trust, earning legitimate royal favor rather than serving mere aggression.
During the Pāṇḍavas’ incognito stay in the Matsya court, Bhīmasena defeats many powerful wrestlers and strong men, and by this display of might he wins the exceptional goodwill of King Virāṭa.
