Protection is sought by recognizing the proper guardianship of each realm—water under Varuṇa and the sky under Vāyu—suggesting that safety and success come from moving in harmony with the cosmic order (ṛta) and invoking rightful divine oversight.
Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates a benediction: the speaker invokes Varuṇa to guard the person in water and Pavana (Vāyu) to guard them in the mid-air, implying the person is undertaking movement or peril across different elements and is being ritually or verbally protected.
