Rāma’s Reproach of Sugrīva; Hanūmān’s Report of Seeing Sītā
Ikṣvākurājñaḥ subalasya putraḥ sa eva hantā dviṣatāṃ sugātri.
The verse underscores a kṣatriya ideal: true worth is shown through the capacity to protect and to overcome hostile forces, while social identity (dynasty and parentage) is used as a marker of legitimacy and expected conduct.
Koṭika identifies a striking young man near a pond and introduces him by lineage—son of King Subala of the Ikṣvāku line—praising him as a singularly capable enemy-slayer, thereby directing attention to his martial significance.
