Vidura’s Counsel to Krishna on the Limits of Peace

The verse highlights the ethical contrast between external respect and internal intention: proper royal etiquette and honoring a revered guest can coexist with unresolved adharma and stubbornness. It invites reflection on whether courtesy without moral correction has real value in preventing harm.
As Kṛṣṇa arrives in the Kaurava court during the tense pre-war negotiations, Duryodhana stands up with his ministers and formally honors him, following courtly protocol even as the larger dispute remains unsettled.
