Draupadī–Kṛṣṇa Dialogue on Settlement and Daṇḍa
kathaṁ nu dṛṣṭvā pāñcālīṁ tathā kṛṣṇāṁ sabhāgatām | avadhena praśāmyet mama manyuḥ suyodhane, śrīkṛṣṇa |
The verse foregrounds the ethical force of outrage at adharma: public humiliation of a virtuous woman in the royal court is treated as a grave moral injury demanding redress. It also shows the tension between righteous anger (manyu) and the escalation toward lethal retribution, a key dilemma in the lead-up to war.
Sahadeva addresses Kṛṣṇa, recalling Draupadī being brought into the assembly in a dishonored state. He declares that his anger against Duryodhana (Suyodhana) cannot be pacified unless Duryodhana is slain, expressing the Pandavas’ resolve hardening toward war.
