Bhīmasena’s Assertion of Strength
Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 74
ārujya vakṣāṁ nirmūlān gajaḥ parirujann iva | niṣṇan paddhiḥ kṣitiṁ bhīma niṣṭanan paridhāvasi ||
The verse highlights the ethical tension of warrior power: immense strength and righteous resolve can appear terrifying and destructive, so such force must be governed by dharma and directed toward a just end rather than uncontrolled rage.
Bhīma is depicted in a heightened state of martial fury—stamping the ground, roaring, and rushing about—his energy compared to an elephant uprooting and crushing trees, emphasizing his readiness for violent confrontation.
