Bhīṣma’s Account of the Strategic Engagement with Rāma Jāmadagnya
enasā na tu saṃyogaṃ prāpsyase jātu mānada | svapsyate jāmadagnyo 'sau tvad-vāṇa-bala-pīḍitaḥ ||

Bhishma reassures that righteous combat undertaken within dharma does not automatically produce moral taint; when one acts without wrongful intent and within proper bounds, one need not fear ‘enas’ (sin) from the mere fact of conflict.
In the Bhishma–Parashurama confrontation, Bhishma tells his opponent (addressed as mānada) that he will not incur sin from this engagement; Parashurama, afflicted by the power of the other’s arrows, will become quiet and withdraw into rest.
