Ambā among ascetics; Hotravāhana directs her to Paraśurāma
bandhubhir vara-prahīṇāsmi śālvena ca nirākṛtā | na ca śakyaṃ punar gantuṃ mayā vāraṇasāhvayam ||
The verse underscores the ethical fragility of worldly supports: kinship and royal patronage are meant to provide protection, yet when they collapse, one’s social and moral standing becomes precarious. It invites reflection on dharma as a steadier refuge than mere affiliation or power.
A speaker reports being abandoned by relatives and repudiated by King Śālva, and declares an inability to return to Vāraṇasāhvaya (Hastināpura). The line conveys a crisis of shelter and legitimacy within the broader tensions of the Udyoga Parva.
