अलातं तिन्दुकस्येव मुहूर्तमपि विज्वल । मा तुषाग्निरिवानर्चिर्धूमायस्व जिजीविषु:,तू तिन्दुककी जलती हुई लकड़ीके समान दो घड़ीके लिये भी प्रज्वलित हो उठ (थोड़ी देरके ही लिये सही, शत्रुके सामने महान्‌ पराक्रम प्रकट कर); परंतु जीनेकी इच्छासे भूसीकी ज्वालारहित आगके समान केवल धुआँ न कर (मन्द पराक्रमसे काम न ले)

Transliteration

alātaṁ tindukasyeva muhūrtam api vijvala | mā tuṣāgnir ivānarcir dhūmāy asva jijīviṣuḥ ||

Translation

Ваю сказал: «Вспыхни, пусть даже на миг, как горящий факел из древесины тиндуки — яви решительную доблесть перед врагом. Но не становись из желания жить подобен огню из мякины: без пламени, лишь дымящему; не довольствуйся робким и бесплодным усилием.»
