Udyoga Parva — Gandhārī’s Counsel to Duryodhana

dvaidhībhūteṣu lokeṣu vinaśyatsu ca bhārata | abravīt sṛṣṭimān devo bhagavāṁl lokabhāvanaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

When conflict threatens to destroy the world, the epic frames dharma as aligned with cosmic stability: Brahmā’s declaration functions as a providential marker that forces opposing order (the devas) will ultimately prevail over forces portrayed as destabilizing (daityas/dānavas/asuras).

Vaiśampāyana introduces an illustrative precedent: at a time when devas and asuras stood ready for battle and the worlds were divided into two camps, Brahmā spoke and foretold the defeat of the daitya-dānava-asura side and the victory of the devas (Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras).
