Śara-śayyā-sthita-bhīṣma-saṃvāda-prastāvaḥ
The Prelude to Questioning Bhīṣma on the Bed of Arrows
यश्नैतेन प्रमाणेन योक्ष्यत्यात्मानमात्मना । स फल सर्वपुण्यानां प्रेत्य चानुभविष्यति
yad etena pramāṇena yokṣyaty ātmānam ātmanā | sa phalaṃ sarvapuṇyānāṃ pretya cānubhaviṣyati ||
Ваю сказал: Кто, приняв это наставление как непререкаемую меру, собственным внутренним усилием обуздает и впряжёт самого себя,—тот после смерти вкусит плод всех заслуг, словно собрал всякую праведность.
वायुदेव उवाच
To accept the given instruction as a trustworthy standard (pramāṇa) and, through one’s own effort, bring the self under disciplined control; such inner mastery is said to yield the comprehensive reward of merit.
Vāyudeva is speaking and concludes with a promise of फल (phala): anyone who embodies the teaching in lived practice—‘yoking the self by the self’—will, after death, experience the fruits of all kinds of पुण्य (puṇya).
