Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages
धृता तेनोरुणा येन तेनोर्वीति मही स्मृता । रक्षणार्थ समुद्दिश्य ययाचे पृथिवी तदा
dhṛtā tenoruṇā yena tenorvīti mahī smṛtā | rakṣaṇārthaṃ samuddiśya yayāce pṛthivī tadā
Поскольку Земля была удержана бёдрами того благородного, её стали помнить под именем «Урви» (Urvi). И, желая обрести защиту, Земля тогда приблизилась к нему и воззвала с мольбой.
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse links rightful protection to moral authority: the Earth is sustained by a worthy protector, and in turn she seeks refuge and safeguarding from him—implying that dharma includes the duty to uphold and protect the world.
Vāsudeva explains an etymological and narrative point: because a great protector upheld the Earth, she is called ‘Urvī’; and at that time the Earth, personified, approached him to request protection.
