Nāgendra–Brāhmaṇa Saṃvāda: Praśna-vidhi and Dharmic Approach on the Gomatī Riverbank
tato hateṣu vedeṣu brahmā kaśmalam āviśat | tato vacanam īśānaṃ prāha vedair vinākṛtaḥ |

When sacred knowledge and the foundations of dharma are lost, even the highest beings experience disorientation; the proper response is humble turning toward the Supreme and seeking restoration of right order rather than acting from confusion.
After the Vedas are no longer available (described as 'destroyed' or taken away), Brahmā becomes overwhelmed by kaśmala (distress/delusion). Bereft of the Vedas, he begins to address Īśāna, initiating a plea that sets up the subsequent events of recovery or re-establishment of Vedic knowledge.
