Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical weight of mass violence: even a righteous victory can generate immense suffering, social collapse, and moral blame. It urges sensitivity to the grief of innocents and reflection on responsibility and the long shadow of destructive action.

Yudhiṣṭhira foresees (or recalls) the lament of bereaved women who, devastated by the slaughter, curse the Pāṇḍavas and the Vṛṣṇis as agents of ruin, and in their weakness repeatedly fall to the ground in grief.
