Welfare, Steadfastness, and Norms of Giving
pāpāt pāpasamācārān nihīnāc ca narādhipa | pāpa eva vadhaḥ prokto narakāyeti niścayaḥ ||
The verse teaches that the moral quality of an act of killing is affected by the killer’s character: when the slayer is sinful and degraded, the killing is classified as sinful and is said to result in hell, according to śāstric judgment.
In Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma, the sage Parāśara addresses a king and lays down a doctrinal rule about the ethical consequences of being killed by a sinful person, emphasizing the śāstric certainty of its karmic result.
