Dāna ethics, lawful wealth, and settling obligations

vajriṇaṁ mṛgayāmāsa tadā bharatasattama | dharmajña rājendra bharatasattama |

Educational Q&A

Even the mightiest are not beyond moral causality: grave wrongdoing (here, brahmahatyā) is portrayed as an inescapable consequence that actively pursues the doer, underscoring dharma as accountability rather than mere power.

After Vṛtra is slain, the personified sin of brahmahatyā—blood-smeared and wearing rags and bark—emerges from Vṛtra’s body and immediately begins searching for Indra (the vajra-bearer), indicating that Indra is being pursued by the consequence of brahmanicide.
