Ahiṃsā as the Superior Dharma: Practical and Scriptural Reasoning
तामब्रवीत् तदा देवी मृत्यो संहर मानवान् । अधर्मस्ते न भविता तथा ध्यास्याम्यहं शुभे
tām abravīt tadā devī mṛtyo saṁhara mānavān | adharmas te na bhavitā tathā dhyāsyāmy ahaṁ śubhe ||
Тогда Брахма сказал богине: «О Смерть, совершай изъятие людей из мира живых. За это к тебе не пристанет адхарма. О благостная, я и впредь буду поддерживать тебя благожелательным созерцанием и покровительством».
पितामह उवाच
When an action is performed as an ordained cosmic duty (niyoga) rather than from personal malice, the agent is not stained by adharma; Death functions as a necessary regulator of the world-order.
Brahmā addresses the goddess Mṛtyu and commands her to ‘withdraw’ human beings (i.e., cause death), assuring her that no sin will attach to her and that he will remain favorably disposed toward her.
