ततोड<र्थगतितत्त्वज्ञ: संधिविग्रहकालवित्‌ | सान्त्वपूर्वमिदं वाक्‍्यं मार्जारं मूषिकोडब्रवीत्‌

Transliteration

tato 'rthagati-tattvajñaḥ sandhi-vigraha-kāla-vit | sāntva-pūrvam idaṃ vākyaṃ mārjāraṃ mūṣiko 'bravīt ||

Translation

Тогда мышь — истинно сведущая в ходе выгоды и в началах действенных средств, знавшая, когда искать союза, а когда вступать в распрю, — обдумала намерения врага. Желая прежде всего умиротворить, она обратилась к коту примирительными, сладкими словами, избрав дипломатический путь как нравственное и стратегическое начало, прежде чем прибегнуть к более суровым мерам.
