यदर्थ चाप्यपह्तं येन तच्चैव मन्त्रितम् तस्य तद् विदितं सर्व कारणार्थ च मर्षितम्
yadarthaṃ cāpyapahṛtaṃ yena taccaiva mantritam | tasya tad viditaṃ sarvaṃ kāraṇārthaṃ ca marṣitam ||

शार्टूल उवाच
Even when wrongdoing and its instigators are fully known, one may choose restraint and endurance for a higher practical or ethical reason—highlighting discretion, patience, and the weighing of consequences rather than impulsive retaliation.
Śārṭūla narrates that the jackal learns the entire plot behind the theft of meat—both the motive and the adviser—yet, despite this knowledge, he keeps silent and bears it, implying a deliberate choice to tolerate the situation.
